Mt. Mentok Kangri, towering at approximately 6,270 meters, is a stunning peak located in Eastern Ladakh, at the far end of the remote Rupshu plateau, home to the famous Changpa nomads. Nestled near the shimmering Tso Moriri Lake, this mountain offers climbers breathtaking panoramic views and a mix of high-altitude trekking and mountaineering challenges.
Though not technically demanding, this expedition requires good fitness and proper acclimatization, making it an excellent choice for experienced trekkers and aspiring mountaineers looking to test their endurance. The route takes you through the scenic Ladakhi landscape, crossing high-altitude pastures, remote valleys, and nomadic settlements, providing an immersive wilderness and cultural experience.
The journey begins in Leh, with a scenic drive to Karzok, a picturesque village by Tso Moriri Lake. Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Leh (3500 m)
Activity: Arrival & Acclimatization
Details: Arrive in Leh and spend the day acclimatizing to the high altitude. You can explore Leh’s bustling market and cafes, or simply relax to allow your body to adjust.
Overnight: Hotel/Guesthouse in Leh.
Meals: Dinner
Day 2: Leh Acclimatization - Shanti Stupa & Leh Palace Exploration
Activity: Acclimatization Hike
Details: After breakfast, hike to Shanti Stupa (3600 m), offering panoramic views of Leh and the surrounding mountains. Continue to the historic Leh Palace for a deeper connection with Ladakh’s history. Lunch at Hotel. Take a leisurely walk through Leh’s old town and market, where you can purchase any last-minute essentials for your expedition. Evening is dedicated to final preparations for the expedition, including a detailed briefing and equipment check.

Day 3: Leh to Karzok Village (4550 m) via Thiksey Monastery
Activity: Drive & Scenic Exploration
Details: After breakfast, depart from Leh and drive to Karzok Village stopping at Thiksey Monastery en route to admire its beautiful architecture and spiritual significance. Embark on a scenic 6-7 hour drive to Karzok Village, which lies on the edge of the stunning Tso Moriri Lake. The route passes through picturesque villages, and the serene turquoise waters of Tso Moriri welcome you to Karzok.
Overnight: Camp near Karzok Village.

Day 4: Acclimatization & Trek to Karzok Phu via Karzok Village
Activity: Acclimatization Day & Trekking
Details: Take this day to acclimatize at Karzok. Explore the ancient Karzok Monastery and walk along the shore of Tso Moriri Lake. The day allows for a cultural immersion and helps you prepare for the trek ahead.
Overnight: Camp near Karzok Phu.

Day 5: Trek from Karzok Phu to Mentok Kangri I Base Camp (5400 m)
Activity: Trekking (5-6 hours)
Details: Begin your trek from Karzok Phu to Mentok Kangri I Base Camp. The trail passes through rocky terrain, grasslands, and offers expansive views of the surrounding mountains and the vast Changthang plateau.
Overnight: Camping at Base Camp.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 6: Acclimatization & Technical Training at Base Camp
Activity: Acclimatization & Technical Practice
Details: Spend the day acclimatizing at Base Camp. Participate in technical training, where you will practice essential mountaineering skills, including using ropes, ice axes, and crampons for glacier navigation.
Overnight: Camping at Base Camp.

Day 7: Summit Day – Mentok Kangri I (6270 m)
Activity: Climb (10-12 hours)
Details: Begin the summit push early in the morning, navigating through glaciated terrain and snow slopes. The climb requires stamina and determination, but the reward is the stunning 360-degree view of the surrounding Himalayan peaks. After reaching the summit, descend back to Base Camp.
Overnight: Camping at Base Camp.

Day 8: Base Camp to Karzok Phu Village
Activity: Trekking(4 hours)
Details: Trek back to Karzok Phu. The descent offers a chance to reflect on the adventure and take in the breathtaking landscape once more.

Day 9: Drive to Leh
Activity: Drive back to Leh

Day 10: Departure from Leh 🛫
Activity: Departure
Details: After breakfast, depart from Leh with unforgettable memories of the Mentok Kangri I expedition and the beautiful landscapes of Ladakh.
Day 11: Reserve Day
This day is kept as a buffer in case of bad weather or other delays during the summit attempt. (NOTE : If Reserve day is used INR 3500/- extra will be charged.)
Inclusions
Accommodation: Twin-sharing basis throughout the expedition. This includes 3 nights in a hotel/guesthouse in Leh and 6 nights camping during the expedition.
Transportation: All transfers and transportation in a comfortable Tempo Traveller or cab.
Meals: All meals provided from Day 1 (Dinner) to Day 10 (Breakfast), including freshly prepared, nutritious meals (veg and non-veg) during the expedition—breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks.
Mountain Guides & Support Staff: Experienced and certified mountain guides along with a skilled support team throughout the expedition.
First-Aid & Oxygen: First-aid kit with oxygen backup available for the duration of the expedition to ensure safety at all times.
Permits & Fees: Includes IMF (Indian Mountaineering Foundation) permit, ALTOA (All Ladakh Tour Operators Association) fees, Inner Line Permit, and environmental charges.
Expedition Equipment: All essential mountaineering equipment such as snow boots, crampons, harness, helmet, carabiners, rope, and ice axe (except for personal clothing).
Camping Equipment: High-quality camping gear, including dining tents, kitchen tents, sleeping tents, sleeping bags, sleeping mattresses, and toilet tents.
Luggage Support: Horses/mules to carry personal and central expedition luggage throughout the trek.
Exclusions
Personal Expenses: Any personal expenses such as packaged drinking water, soft drinks, alcoholic beverages, toiletries, and other personal items.
Single occupancy room or Individual tent (available at extra cost).
Meals During Transit: Meals during road journeys are not included.
Unforeseen Expenses: Additional costs incurred due to delays caused by adverse weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances beyond our control.

Insurance: Travel, health, or mountaineering insurance is not provided.
Emergency Evacuation & Medical Costs: Any costs related to emergency evacuations, medical treatments, or hospitalisation charges.
Personal Clothing: Participants are responsible for their own personal clothing and gear.
Airfare: Domestic or international airfares are not covered.
Gratuities: Tips for the ground staff, including guides and porters, are not included.
