Chatru – Manali
Duration: 4-5 hrs
We shall drive about 16 kms to the North-east of Manali through Prini village to Hamta, which is the starting point of the trek. Enroute enjoy the alluring villages with a wide open view of mystic mountains.
We then start our trek towards the inspiriting campsite at Chikka that lies at about 3500m. It is a beautiful 3-4 hrs walk through dense and fragrant alpine forests.
Chikka lies just above the tree line and is a beautiful green alpine meadow.
In the summer months, one will come across several herds of sheep on this route. Immerse into the dazzling beauty of Chikka and call it a day.
Today you would trek for barely 5 hrs but the journey is beyond impressive.
Feel the reality of being in the Himalayan region as you catch the first glimpse of the outer Himalayan chain of mountains.
A gradual ascent begins after Balu Ka Ghera (bear’s den), known for wild flowers, rocks and caves.
A further trail takes you to the Hamta pass. This is where one gets a fantastic view of Inderkila, DeoTibba (6001m) and Indrasan (6220m), which will promisingly be one hell of an experience.
The views of the snow-capped peaks and glaciers will take your breath away. After crossing the Hampta pass, one enters the Lahaul valley. Then, walk down to the campsite near by the stream.
A cold, yet comfortable night’s sleep awaits you.
Break camps early in the morning. This trek is probably the simplest one.
We undertake a 3 hour walk from Shia Gorhu until we approach Chatru. Sip on some steaming hot tea, accompanied by momos at one of the little stalls. From Chatru board taxi for a road journey to Chandratal. Reach Chandratal by late afternoon.
After spending some time at Chandratal return to Chhatru by the evening. Camp in Chatru.
After your breakfast today, we bid adieu to these beautiful mountains and descend back to Manali.
